Springvale mine extension project, Australia
Name of the Project
Springvale mine extension project.
Location
The project is located in the western coalfield of New South Wales, in Australia.
Client
The project is jointly owned by Centennial Springvale and Springvale SK Kores. The mine is operated by Springvale Coal.
Project Description
Springvale Coal is proposing to modify the development consent for the Springvale extension project to increase the mine’s run-of-mine (RoM) capacity from 4.5-million tonnes a year to 5.5-million tonnes a year.
To achieve this, the company will introduce an additional longwall machine and two additional continuous miners. Springvale is also proposing to increase the capacity of the RoM coal stockpile from 85 000 t to 200 000 t to handle the additional coal produced. The increased capacity will be achieved by extending the stockpile footprint by 0.3 ha to the north-east.
The modification will not increase the mining area or the amount of coal to be extracted.
The proposed increase in the production rate and capacity of the stockpile will enable the mine to supply additional coal to the Mt Piper power station, which provides about 15% of New South Wales’ electricity.
Jobs to Be Created
The extension project will increase the mine’s workforce from 310 to 450 personnel.
