Solid Detergents: Revolutionising The Hospitality Cleaning Industry
This article has been supplied.
Company Announcement - Detergents used in laundry and dishwashing machines in the hospitality industries have evolved over the years from powders to concentrated liquid formulations. The latest innovation to revolutionize the cleaning and sanitising environment is solid detergents in capsule format that offers many advantages, particularly in improving workplace safety and in the control of operating costs.
Following this worldwide trend, Branson Chemicals is the first manufacturer in South Africa to offer detergents in solid cast formats. Earlier this year they launched their product Capsule, for dishwashing machines which has found rapid acceptance in sectors such as catering and restaurants. Soon to be launched is Laundri-Ultra, developed for facilities with on-site laundries, suitable for both top and front loader washing machines.
A major plus of solid technology is that in the manufacture, raw materials are used optimally with stronger combinations of active ingredients such as alkalis, surfactants and conditioners. The products are dispensed into the machines via a dedicated dispensing system that is designed to dissolve the capsules evenly and effectively. Automatic dilution eliminates over-dosing and wastage. Product shrinkage due to theft is also avoided.
The solids weigh only around 4 kgs and the super-concentrate can equate to a drum of 20 liters of liquid detergent. The convenient size translates into logistics benefits in freighting, handling and storage. Compared to liquid detergents there is no need for additives such as fillers and coupling agents to prevent the active materials from settling out, therefore effectively adding to cost savings and a long shelf life.
Solid detergents are regarded as a far safer option to liquid and powder as there is no hand mixing required so employees do not come into contact with the chemicals through spills or splashes when handling the product. Importantly, empty solids containers are recyclable and environmentally friendly.
