A new solar facility immediately adjacent to the Rincon lithium project, in Argentina, will be able to connect directly to the project, powering the 10 000 t/y expansion operation, Argosy Minerals reported on Monday.

The ASX-listed company stated that discussions with the Altiplano 200 solar power facility, owned by French independent power producer Neoen, confirmed commercial interest to progress to supply the lithium project.

Construction of the 200 MWp solar facility was nearing completion.

“To have a renewable solar power facility immediately adjacent to our project will reap tremendous benefits, both economically and environmentally, and further distinguishes our operation as we progress toward the additional 10 000 t/y expansion as the next stage of development at Rincon,” commented Argosy MD Jerko Zuvela.

Argosy’s chemical process technology to produce battery quality lithium carbonate would use about 5 MW to 6 MW for the 10 000 t/y expansion operation.
