PERTH (miningweekly.com) - Metals miner MacPhersons Resources has started the tendering process to expand its Nimbus silver/zinc/gold project, in Western Australia, after optimisation studies confirmed the viability of merging the original two openpit operations into a single silver superpit.

The pit optimisation studies increased the Nimbus resource by some 46%, to 4.4-million tons, grading 129 g/t silver equivalent for 18.3-million ounces of silver.

“The pit optimisation studies all support a single superpit model, which is what we predicted when the new mineralised zone at Lens 3 was intersected,” said MacPhersons MD Morrie Goodz.

“The drilling results, resource upgrade and new pit model support the director’s decision to approve the plant expansion and the new Merrill-Crowe plant scheduled for deliver in October 2013,” Goodz added.

MacPhersons in December last year gave the green light to expand the Nimbus plant by introducing a new 480 000 t/y Merrill-Crowe plant. The new plant design was larger and more flexible, allowing for early production from gold and zinc streams, and would allow for the co-treatment of ores from various sources, including the Boorara and Coolgardie gold projects.
