PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore hopeful Venture has awarded Tasmanian contractor Shaw Contracting the preferred tenderer status to restart operations at the Riley iron-ore project.

Shaw previously worked with Venture in 2014 to mine the Riley project, before the project was placed on care-and-maintenance on the back of weak iron-ore prices.

“Venture is glad to welcome back the expertise and knowledge of Shaw Contracting to the Riley iron-ore project. The advantages of getting Shaw to pick up from where they left off will be a huge advantage to the recommencement timeline of the mine,” said Venture MD Andrew Radonjic.

The Riley project has a 1.8-million-tonne reserve, grading 57% iron, with the deposit located less than 2 km from a sealed road that accesses existing rail and port facilities.
