Serco enjoys growth spurt
Leading truck body and trailer manufacturing company, Serco, is expanding its premises in Phoenix Industrial Park in Durban with the first stage in the growth spurt being the relocation of their repair division to a new 3500m2 site in Aberdare Road.
The new site is conveniently situated less than a kilometre down the road from Serco’s existing manufacturing facility where extensions estimated to cost around R16 million are to commence shortly with completion targeted for September 2014.
The new repair site is currently being renovated and Serco expect to be operational there during March.
Serco’s managing director, Clinton Holcroft said the extension and upgrade of its Durban manufacturing operation in Phoenix Industrial Park would increase the under roof area by more than 3000m2 and result in improvements to operating efficiencies.
“The extensions will also accommodate a new leading edge panel press and cater for an increase in manufacturing capacity,” said Holcroft, who remains upbeat about Serco’s growth prospects this year. Added to this there are also big things happening at Serco’s operation in Johannesburg where the company bought a 13,4ha slice of property last year. Phase one of the development is close to completion and will double the space currently being enjoyed by Serco’s operation in Jetpark. We are looking forward to the new premises which will be the home for Serco Gauteng from April 2014.
Holcroft said, “with the average age of fleets increasing as well as rising diesel costs, there is a need to replace older truck bodies and trailers with new lighter models which will reduce fuel and maintenance costs. We are excited about the new developments currently taking place at Serco which will pave the way to improvements in efficiencies and growth into the future.”
