A security officer may complete a patrol and respond to an incident. Yet, the control room can still be left with an incomplete picture when location data, communications, alerts, and evidence sit in separate systems.

Sentiv will focus on closing this gap when it participates in the 2nd Annual South African Private Security Industry Conference (PSIC) on Friday, 4 September 2026 at the Apple Blossom Hotel & Venue in Honeydew, Roodepoort, Johannesburg.

The conference is expected to attract more than 250 delegates from private security companies, government, regulatory bodies, corporate security teams, industry associations, and technology providers. Its programme is built around the professionalisation of the sector, engagement between industry and regulators, skills development, and the role of technology in future security operations.

Security operations need a shared picture

For private security providers, accountability depends on being able to show what happened in the field and how the organisation responded. Customers may need confirmation that patrols took place, alerts reached the control room, field teams were contacted, and incident records were completed.

“Private security providers are under pressure to give customers a clearer account of what happened on the ground and how their teams responded,” says Maxcine Pillay, Product and Partner Manager at Sentiv. “That becomes difficult when communications, field activity, incident management, and evidence are handled in isolation. Connected operations give the control room and field teams a shared picture.”

Radios, patrol systems, cameras, and reporting tools can each perform a useful function. Exposure often appears at the points between them, where an alert loses context, information has to be entered again, or a response cannot be reconstructed afterwards.

An incident should not start a chain of manual calls

A panic alert from a field officer should reach the control room with enough information for the operator to understand who needs help, where the incident is taking place, and which response resources are available. The field team needs a reliable way to communicate, while the organisation maintains a record that can be reviewed after the event.

Sentiv supports this type of operating environment by connecting field communications with dispatch and control-room platforms. Location services, guard patrol verification, panic alerts, body-worn video, and evidence management can add the operational context needed to coordinate a response and account for what followed.

The practical value lies in the connections between these capabilities. When an officer raises an alert, the control room should be able to locate that person, reach the relevant response team, follow the incident as it develops, and retain the information required for reporting or review.

Technology must fit the operation

A national guarding company and an in-house corporate security team will not need the same architecture. The technology has to reflect how people work, where they operate, and what the organisation must be able to demonstrate.

“A long feature list is not a substitute for operational fit. The solution has to help control-room operators and field teams work from the same information, respond with greater confidence and produce a reliable account of what happened,” says Pillay.
