PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Oil and gas company Senex Energy on Wednesday reported that it had identified up to 2.9-trillion cubic feet of prospective resource in a new gasfield, dubbed Hornet.

The resource included some 141-billion cubic feet of 1C contingent resource, and MD Ian Davies said the field was well placed for early commercialisation, as the project was less than 30 km from the Moomba-to-Sydney pipeline, owned by the APA Group.

“The shallow depth, low carbon dioxide, proximity to pipeline infrastructure with available capacity, and conventional reservoir characteristics of this resource are advantageous for early commercialisation.”

Davies noted that Senex had a high level of confidence about the nature of the accumulation, because of the strong control provided by a large number of wells which had previously been drilled in the area, by Senex as well as other operators.

“The next step is to optimise well design to achieve commercial flow rates and gas recovery, with our first appraisal well spudding early in the September quarter,” he added.
