PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Sayona Mining has acquired two new lithium exploration tenements in Western Australia.

The two projects, dubbed Friendly Creek and West Wodgina, cover some 339 km2, and show similarities with the tin pegmatites at Mt Cassiterite, in the Wodgina field, which hosts spodumene bearing albite pegmatites.

Sayone said on Wednesday that field exploration over the new tenements would start shortly.

The acquisition of the two new tenements followed the recent acquisition of a package of lithium prospective exploration tenements, also in Western Australia.

The tenements included the Tabba Tabba project area and the Mt Edon project area, and covered 364 km2.

Soyona previously said that the acquisition of the lithium tenements was complementary to the company’s graphite development strategy, adding that lithium was a high-value product, which was anticipated to be in tight supply as the demand for lithium-ion batteries continued to grow.
