JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-quoted Savannah Resources has been granted environmental operating permits for the first two of a series of planned copper mine developments in Oman, marking a “major breakthrough” for its development plans, CEO David Archer announced on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) granted environmental operating permits for the Maqail South and Mahab 4 mine developments.

“MECA’s clearance is expected to be factored positively into the approval process of the remaining Ministries,” Archer said, adding that the company expected final approvals to be received before the end of 2019 and that it should be awarded mining licences in early 2018.

Savannah had received “no objection” letters from six of the eight required Ministries.

Maquail South is an opencut development and Mahab 4 is an underground development.
