Chemicals and energy company Sasol has appointed Walt Bruns to succeed Hanré Rossouw as CFO, with effect from September 1.

Bruns, who is currently CFO of Sasol Southern Africa, has been with the company for 15 years and has held a variety of senior management positions, including more than three years as CFO of Sasol's global chemicals business.

Prior to Sasol, he worked for Deloitte in South Africa and the US.

Sasol says Bruns is well positioned to succeed Rossouw, owing to his in-depth knowledge of the Sasol business and his extensive global experience in both the chemicals and energy sectors.

Bruns is a certified chartered accountant in South Africa. He holds a BComm degree from Stellenbosch University and postgraduate diplomas from the University of Cape Town.

In his new role, he will focus on driving sustainable value and supporting Sasol's strategic transformation for the future.

"On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Hanré for his significant contribution and leadership over the past two years, during particularly challenging times. The board welcomes Walt and is looking forward to working with him. His background and experience are well aligned with Sasol's near and long-term objectives and he will play a key role in reshaping our financial success," comments Sasol audit committee chairperson Trix Kennealy.

Sasol, which is due to publish its financial results for the year ended June 30 on August 20, on August 12 warned shareholders that it was likely to report a net loss of R55.8-billion on the back of billions of rands in impairments.
