Renttech South Africa, a leading name in the sale and rental of welding, rigging and construction-related equipment, has recently concluded a turnkey project for Sappi’s Ngodwana Mill ‘GoCell’ Project.

The expansion project consisted of a complete new fibre line for the manufacture of Specialised Cellulose together with upgrades to the evaporator and the pulp drying plant. Renttech was a strategic supply partner to the majority of Sappi’s contractors on the project. “Renttech supplied and managed the complete scope of plant and equipment, as well as consumable requirements to the mechanical and piping contractors. We provided the complete on-site supply solutions for all contractors working on this project,” explains Mornay Nortje, Projects Manager at Renttech SA.

Renttech, which has the largest fleet of rental welding equipment in South Africa, supplied, managed and maintained a tailored rental welding package solution for project GoCell. “Renttech’s total welding solution consisted of UniArc HF Tig Inverter welding machines and Weldcraft Tig torches, as well as specialised stainless steel Lincoln welding electrodes and Tig wires as consumable requirements.  In addition, we supplied all rigging, power tool, power distribution and specialised construction equipment, as well as all PPE (personal protective equipment) related items,” says Nortje. Renttech’s 24/7 on-site presence was critical to the smooth running of the project, according to Nortje. “Our dedicated team working on the project were on-site to ensure all equipment and stock was supplied on time. This was critical in order to minimise down-time for Sappi, and therefore to manage and minimise project costs.”

Renttech’s on-site infrastructure consisted of equipment and consumables stores, which were accessible to all contractors on a 24 hour basis. In addition, a full back-up maintenance and management team was on site to resolve any technical difficulties or requirements. “Our skills in machine repair and experience in stock planning meant that we were able to offer a reliable one-stop turnkey service for Sappi, contributing to the successful completion of this major project,” concludes Renttech SA Managing Director Gerrit van Zyl.
