Sandpiper-Meob joint venture phosphate project, Namibia.

Project Description
The Sandpiper Meob joint venture is an 8 000-km2 marine phosphate project.

The project has an estimated inferred resource of around 1,5-billion tons, at around 18,7% phosphate (P2O5), and an indicated resource estimate of 73,9-million tons, at 20,57% P2O5.

The P2O5 will be mined from the seabed off the coast of Namibia and transported to the Richards Bay terminal, in KwaZulu-Natal, where it will go through land-based processing.

Minemakers is aiming to work on the feasibility study during 2010, and to go to production by 2011.

The joint venture comprises Minemakers (42,5% through its takeover of Bonaparte Diamond Mines), Union Resources (42,5%) and Namibian partner Tungeni Investments (15%).

Minemakers' scoping study for its Sandpaper-Meob phosphate project, off the coast of Namibia, is likely to be completed in the fourth quarter. In September/October 2009, Minemakers plans to recover vibracore samples and to carry out a further set of analyses as part of the scoping study and to identify the best subarea - in terms of sediment thickness, grade and water depth - for planning of the first phase of mining.
