Rumble declares maiden tungsten resource at Western Queen
The Western Queen gold project is located 110 km northwest of Mt Magnet within Western Australia’s Yalgoo Mineral Field.
Minerals exploration and development company Rumble Resources has declared a maiden tungsten resource of more than 13 000 t of tungsten trioxide (WO3) at the Western Queen project, near Mt Magnet in Western Australia.
The project, which already has approvals for a proposed openpit gold mine, now boasts 4.31-million tonnes at 0.31% WO3 for 13 200 t of tungsten at a 0.1% cutoff.
“This is a fantastic outcome,” said MD and CEO Peter Harold on Monday. The tungsten resource showed that Western Queen was “more than just a high-grade gold project” that was recently upgraded to 370 000 oz.
“Given the potential to grow the tungsten resources we could be sitting on a major tungsten project at Western Queen in addition to the near-term high-grade gold production we are progressing,” said Harold.
The Rumble team completed the maiden resource in less than a year from first identifying the mineralisation.
The new resource declaration comes at a time when tungsten is a sought-after mineral, given its strategic importance. Tungsten is a critical mineral owing to its unique properties such as high melting point, hardness, and density, which make it vital in the aerospace, defence and electronics application. China currently produces over 85% of the world’s tungsten ore and there is a strong push to reduce the reliance on Chinese sourced tungsten.
“We look forward to seeing the tungsten resources grow at Western Queen and the results of the metallurgical testwork as we look to understand the quantum of revenue that could potentially be generated by exploiting these new tungsten resources,” said Harold.
