TSX-listed RNC has started mining at the Baloo Stage 1 openpit to provide material to supply the 1.4-million-tonne-a-year Higginsville Gold Operation (HGO) plant with about 30 000 t/m until the end of the year.

The Baloo material that has been processed so far has grades ranging between 1.8 g/t and 2.8 g/t, which RNC says is considered “excellent grade” for a shallow openpit mine.

The Baloo Stage 1 openpit is the first of a series of openpits RNC is looking to put into production to maximise own-sourced feed for the HGO plant. It forms part of plans to transform RNC into an integrated multi-mine gold operation and supports the company’s belief in the quality of the resource potential for the 400 km2 HGO land package that it recently acquired, says CEO Paul Huet.

The Baloo Stage 2 is currently in the permitting process.

RNC is currently focused on the integration of its Beta Hunt gold mine, where the high-grade gold discovery ‘Father’s Day Vein’ was made a year ago, with HGO.
