PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed junior Red River Resources was hoping to start production at its Thalanga zinc operations, in Western Australia, by the end of 2015.

Red River acquired the Thalanga project from fellow-listed Kagara in September this year for A$5-million in cash and a A$1.5-million deferred payment.

Red River told shareholders that initial production at Thalanga would be based on mining of the West 45 deposit, where decline access had been completed and first ore level had already been developed by Kagara.

Some 3 000 t of ore was mined from the West 45 and successfully treated through the Thalanga mill in March 2012.

Red River was proposing to treat the West 45 ore through the Thalanga mill, which had a nominal capacity of 600 000 t/y, and was capable of producing separate copper, lead and zinc concentrates.

The ASX-listed junior was undertaking a number of studies, including capital estimates, operating cost estimates and a production schedule for West 45 and Thalanga.

The West 45 deposit is one of five owned by Red River, all with either a defined Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource or with known mineralisation. The company was currently undertaking a number of detailed studies to ascertain the order in which the projects would be developed, following West 45, in order to maximise shareholder value.
