PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Uranium miner Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) has reported a 46% increase in production during the three months to December, compared with the third quarter of 2015.

The miner on Tuesday reported that uranium oxide (U3O8) production reached 669 t, which was also up by 12% on the previous corresponding period.

Compared with the September quarter, drummed U3O8 production in the three months to December was favourably impacted by higher mill head grade, recovery and quantity of ore milled.

ERA has meanwhile initiated a strategic review of its business after the company failed to gain approval for an extension to the Ranger authority at its Ranger mine, in the Northern Territory.

The current Ranger authority permitted mining and processing activities until January 2021 and allowed for access for rehabilitation activities until January 2026.

ERA in June of last year abandoned plans for the Ranger 3 Deeps underground project, citing weak uranium prices. However, the miner had been hoping that an extension of the Ranger Authority would allow ERA to revisit the Ranger 3 Deeps project’s economics over time, when uranium prices recovered.
