PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Ramelius Resources has started mining at its Western Queen South project, some 90 km from its Mt Magnet operations, in Western Australia.

The Western Queen South project was the first of a number of smaller, high-grade satellite deposits to be mined at Mt Magnet, which would increase the overall grade with the goal of maintaining production from Mt Magnet at the 100 000 oz/y mark.

The Western Queen South operation is a high-grade openpit mine with a forecast life-of-mine of some 12 months, and was expected to produce around 23 000 oz of gold, at a head grade of 3.9 g/t gold.

Ore from the deposit would be delivered to Mt Magnet for processing from August this year, and would increase production at Mt Magnet to 100 000 oz in the 2013/14 financial year.
