Ramelius implements interim solution at Mt Magnet
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Ramelius Resources has taken remedial action at its Mt Magnet mine, in Western Australia, in an effort to boost production.
Earlier this month, Ramelius was forced to stop production at Mt Magnet, after electrical problems were encountered at the mine’s ball mill. The company said at the time that it was working to bypass the ball mill in the processing circuit, using the existing semi-autogenous grinding mill to grind ore.
Ramelius said on Friday that a temporary replacement motor for the ball mill had now been obtained and installed; however, the temporary motor was rated below the previous motor’s capacity, which meant that the processing plant was currently being operated at around 85% of its nominal throughput capacity of 1.7-million tonnes a year.
The company said that it would take ten weeks to complete repairs to the damaged motor, meaning the plant would operate at 85% of capacity until the end of January.
During this period, higher grade ore from the Western Queen South and the Saturn pits would be prioritised for processing.
