PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Businesses and industry in Queensland have been invited to comment on a draft report by the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) about industry assistance in the state.

The draft report, released at the end of last week, considered industry assistance and its contributions to the state’s performance and productivity, and made a number of recommendations, including recommendations specifically aimed at the resources sector.

The QCA has identified 112 measures providing A$25.3-billion in assistance from 2013 to 2018, including A$5.6-billion in budget outlays, A$17.1-billion in tax concessions and A$1.3-billion in underpriced assets and services. Of the A$25.3-billion assistance planned for the period, the mining sector would only be privy to A$700-million.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt noted that while the state government took note of both the report and its recommendations, there were no current plans to change the current assistance arrangements.

However, he urged industry to comment on the report by July 3, saying that the government would consider a response once a final report was released at the end of July this year.
