PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Nickel developer Poseidon Nickel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with battery materials refinery Pure Battery Technologies (PBT) to study the merits of Poseidon supplying nickel concentrate to PBT’s precursor cathode active material (pCAM) refinery, in Western Australia.

The proposed refinery would have an initial production capacity of 50 000 t/y of pCAM, which will be expanded over time.

Nickel concentrate product from Poseidon’s Black Swan or its Lake Johnston assets would be used as feedstock for the proposed refinery.

“We look forward to working with PBT to determine if our potential concentrate production could be feed for PBT’s proposed refinery, should we decide to proceed with development of our projects. This could be a great way for us to improve the payability of the nickel in our concentrates and improve the margins of our projects,” said Poseidon MD and CEO Peter Harold.

Poseidon is targeting a final investment decision on the restart of its Black Swan operations by May next year, with mill commissioning targeted for December of the same year.
