Pirtek Africa: Growing With the Continent

Africa is not short of opportunity, however it is short of reliability. Across mining operations, agricultural holdings, construction sites, manufacturing plants, forestry concessions and more, one of the greatest threats to productivity, alongside market conditions or commodity prices, is (and always has been) unplanned equipment failure and the hours lost waiting for someone to fix it.

Pirtek Africa has been building its business around this reality. As the continent’s leading hydraulic hose and fitting service provider, Pirtek Africa exists to keep Africa’s industries moving not by simply selling a product, but by delivering a solution: fast, expert, mobile or on-site support that gets equipment back into operation and keeps it there.

Pirtek Africa’s continued growth is guided by the leadership team of Managing Director Matt Pennefather, General Manager Rob Townsend and Head of Finance Arnold Pienaar, that brings together commercial and operational depth complimented by a highly skilled team of technical, sales and support staff, whose collective experience spans the full range of industries and environments in which Pirtek Africa operates.

Together, they are focused on a clear mandate: extend Pirtek Africa’s proven service model footprint across Southern Africa and meet the growing demand for reliable, professional hydraulic services across the broader African continent in .

Managing Director Matt Pennefather sees the opportunity plainly: “Africa’s industrial sectors are growing, and they need partners who can grow with them. Partners who show up, who understand the operating environment, and who take responsibility for keeping equipment running. That is what Pirtek Africa has always done, and it is what we will continue to do as we expand our footprint.”

Pirtek Africa’s ability to deliver on that promise rests on its experienced and established franchise network. With 23+ service Centres covering every major province in South Africa and a further two Centres in Namibia, the business has built a physical presence that reaches the industries and regions where demand is greatest. That network is actively growing, with an expanding presence in West Africa: Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria and Bukina Faso; East Africa: Tanzania; Kenya and Uganda. Southern / Central Africa: Zambia, DRC, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola and Mozambique.

What sets Pirtek Africa apart is not just where it operates, but how each Centre is supported by Mobile Service & Sales Units, equipped teams that travel to site, assess the situation, and resolve it. When a machine goes down in a remote location or outside of business hours, Pirtek Africa’s 24/7 response is the same: get there, fix it, and get the operation moving again. The distinction between  being business solutions partner, not just a supplier, really matters and this frames Pirtek Africa as not simply a parts distributor or a repair contractor. It is a long-term operational partner that helps businesses audit their equipment, manage their hose and fitting inventory, train their teams, and build preventive maintenance programmes that reduce the likelihood of failure in the first place.

Matt Pennefather goes on to say “Our relationship with customers doesn’t start when something breaks. It starts well before that, with an understanding of their operations, their equipment, their risk points. The goal is always to reduce their exposure to unplanned downtime, not just to respond to it.”

As Pirtek Africa grows its team, its Centres, and its continental reach, this approach remains the foundation. Africa’s industries face real and complex operational challenges. Pirtek Africa’s answer is a network of people, infrastructure, and expertise that is ready to meet those challenges wherever they arise.

Pirtek.co.za provides 24/7 emergency response along with an operational overview, catalogue of products and accessibility to Centres.
