British Columbia has approved the underground development of the C-Zone at the New Afton mine, owner New Gold reported on Friday.

The receipt of the Mines Act M229 permit from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation is a “significant milestone” for New Afton, said president and CEO Renaud Adams.

The C Zone is a continuation of the New Afton copper/gold deposit, extending along strike and down plunge from the zones being mined.

"The New Afton team continues to advance development of the C-Zone, with commencement of production expected in the second half of 2023,” he said.

New Gold completed of a new life of mine plan in March 2020 that incorporated the C-Zone development to extend the New Afton mine life to 2030.
