The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has made available funding to help the public and Indigenous Peoples participate in the impact assessment process for the proposed Strange Lake rare earth mining project, in  Quebec.

Funding is available for eligible individuals and groups to support their participation throughout the planning phase of the federal impact assessment process.

During the current comment period, which ends on December 4, the public and Indigenous Peoples have the opportunity to review the summary of the initial project description and provide comments.

The agency will determine at a later stage if a federal impact assessment is required for the project, which Torngat Metals is proposing near Schefferville.

Torngat is planning a new rare earths mine with a maximum ore production capacity of 55 000 t/d and a beneficiation plant of 17 000 t/d of ore.
