PanAust backs clean water plan in Laos
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed copper and gold miner PanAust will become the first private-sector donor to partner with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in a $46.55-million clean water and sanitation project, in Laos.
PanAust and ADB would provide $41-million of this funding, with PanAust contributing a $6-million grant to the initiative as part of its ongoing sustainability activities in Laos. The government of Laos and local communities would contribute the balance.
PanAust MD Gary Stafford said on Monday that the company was happy to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in Laos, in partnership with the government, the ADB and local communities.
Under the projects, households would receive free water connections when they install a toilet in their home, and the project was expected to provide some 160 000 people, or more than 2% of the population, with clean water, improved sanitation and better health.
