Name and Location
Pakrut gold project, Tajikistan.

Client
Kryso Resources.

Project Description
The Pakrut project is situated in the southern portion of the Tien Shan fold belt, a belt of folded rocks that extends from near the Aral sea, in Uzbekistan, through the northern part of Tajikistan into China and then into Mongolia. The Tien-Shan fold belt contains the world’s second-largest known gold resources after the Witwatersrand in South Africa.

An operation with a 19-year mine life and an average gold production of 82 000 oz/y in the first four years has been proposed.

The project is based on the development of Pakrut as an underground mine using sublevel open stoping, with cemented hydraulic fill as the primary mining method. The orebody will be accessed through a decline, starting at 2 265 m above sea level and running down to 1 810 m. In addition, a raise is proposed from the 2 300 m level to enable mining up to the surface at about 2 400 m above sea level.

Value
The expected capital expenditure cost of Phase 1, which includes construction, working capital and allowances for cost overruns, is $176.53-million. Phase 2 will cost an estimated $46.5-million, which will be funded from operating cash flow.

Duration
The mine will be brought into production in 2014.

Latest Developments
The procurement and delivery of the plant and machinery are progressing.
