JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Australia-based Otto Energy on Monday restarted production at the Galoc joint venture (JV) offshore of the Philippines, after super Typhoon Haiyan directly passed through the oil field on Friday night.

The company said that all its personnel were unharmed and reported only minor damage to its infrastructure.

“During the storm, sea states and wind speeds were the most severe ever experienced at Galoc,” Otto Energy, which is the operator of the JV, reported.

The category-five storm, which killed up to 10 000 people in the Philippines, brought sustained winds of 235 km/h, with gusts of 275 km/h. Waves reached as high as 15 m and up to 400 mm of rain were reported in places.

The ASX-listed company suspended production from the field on November 8 and demanned the production vessel to essential personnel only.

Meanwhile, another Australia-listed company, Medusa Mining, reported that the typhoon had passed well to the north of its Co-O operations, in Central East Mindanao, and that it did not affect its operations.
