JSE- and ASX-listed Orion Minerals has appointed Anthony Lennox and Patience Mpofu as nonexecutive directors.

Lennox has 40 years of resource sector experience in operations, project development and corporate management. This includes 35 years of leading people and 20 years of board experience.

He is an experienced mining engineer with extensive underground and opencut experience in both coal and base metals.

His career includes having served as MD and CEO of Palabora Mining Company from 2010 to 2013.

With over 10 years in Africa serving at MD and chairperson levels, Orion highlights that Lennox brings skills in governance, strategy development and execution in complex and culturally diverse arenas.

This, when added to his technical and leadership skills, has resulted in commercial and sustainable business solutions under his watch, the company avers.

Mpofu is a mining executive with over 15 years of experience of cross-functional resources industry experience.

As a former VP of an ASX-listed mining company, she led multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated sustainability strategies that drove business results, reduced risk and improved the company’s reputation, Orion points out.

The company adds that she has strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) leadership experience across a range of roles including devising global commercial strategies to create value.

As a metallurgist by training, her technical proficiency underpins her comprehensive understanding of the mining sector, Orion highlights.

Currently, as CEO and principal consultant of Insight Mining Experts, Mpofu is said to be able to offer insights into global mining trends, risks and ESG practices, especially in the context of energy transition.

“We are very pleased to have further strengthened the Orion board with the appointment of Tony and Patience, given their extensive skill sets, including technical, operational, commercial, ESG and community or stakeholder expertise, particularly as Orion transitions to a producer of future-facing metals,” Orion chairperson Denis Waddell says.
