Project Description
The project is located about 10 km north-east of Newman, in Western Australia.

The project envisages a mine producing 17-million tonnes a year of iron-ore and includes the construction of an ore-crushing plant, a train load-out facility, a rail spur and other associated infrastructure.

Value
The value of the project is estimated at $822-million.

BHP Billiton’s share of the capital cost of the Orebody 24 mine is $698-million.

Duration
Initial mining is expected to start in the second half of 2012.

Latest Developments
First production was achieved in the final quarter of 2012.

The overall project is 86% complete.
