OceanaGold appoints new CFO
Multinational miner OceanaGold has appointed Marius van Niekerk as executive VP and CFO, replacing Scott McQueen.
The company explains that the appointment has arisen owing to McQueen advising that he did not wish to relocate to Vancouver, Canada, for family reasons.
Van Niekerk will be based in OceanaGold’s corporate head office in Vancouver and will start by the middle of the year.
He spent 13 years with BHP and joins OceanaGold from Newcrest Mining, where he is currently VP of finance – Americas, based in Vancouver. From 2019 to 2023, Van Niekerk was responsible for the commercial integration and financial and commercial oversight of the Red Chris and Brucejack mines in British Columbia.
Van Niekerk is a chartered accountant in South Africa and a CPA in Canada. He has 25 years of broad-based mining and technology industry experience spanning South Africa, the UK, Mozambique, Singapore and Canada.
