PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed NRW Holdings has been awarded a A$620-million contract to construct the rail formation for the line between the proposed Roy Hill mine site and Port Hedland, in Western Australia.

The scope of the work included the construction of 330 km of main line heavy haul rail formation, along with sidings and level crossings, and associated works.

Preliminary construction was set to start in September and was scheduled for completion by January 2015. At its peak, the project would employ some 1 500 workers.

The rail contract comes just days after project house Forge was awarded a A$1.47-billion contract for the construction of a processing facility at Roy Hill.

The Roy Hill mine would produce 55-million tons a year, with production set for 2015.
