Nova on track for late 2016 production – Independence
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Base metals miner Independence Group on Thursday said that the recently acquired Nova nickel project, in Western Australia, remained on track for first production in December of next year.
Independence gained the Nova project as part of its acquisition of Sirius Resources earlier this year.
“Our ability to maintain the Nova project development on schedule and on budget through the integration if Sirius is a testament to the development, operational and exploration experience within the group,” said Independence MD Peter Bradford.
Despite some scope changes to the Nova project, the budget had remained unchanged at A$443-million. All major contracts had been awarded and all long-lead equipment was either in the final stages of factory testing, or ready for dispatch.
By the end of November, the construction of the Nova project was 56% complete.
“The critical path items, being the underground mine development and processing plant construction, are ahead of schedule. The underground mine development is currently about 11 weeks ahead of schedule, with approximately 2 217 m of advance completed to December 7, compared to the schedule of 1 410 m,” Bradford said.
Sealing work on the project’s access road would also be completed in early December, while bulk earthworks were complete.
At full production, the Nova project was expected to deliver about 26 000 t/y of nickel, 11 500 t/y of copper and 850 t/y of cobalt over a ten-year mine life.
