Platinum group metals (PGMs) producer Northam Platinum has, for the first time, been included in the FTSE/JSE Top 40 index, ranking at number 32.

The admission will be effective from March 23.

Northam first listed on the JSE in 1987 and has transformed from a single asset operator to a multi-asset, diversified quality PGMs producer.

The company’s market capitalisation is currently R60-billion, while it declared a record operating profit of R3-billion in 2019.

The FTSE/JSE Top 40 is South Africa’s best known index, and comprises the 40 largest companies listed on the JSE, including media giant Naspers and diversified miners BHP Group and Anglo American.
