Nordgold starts mining new deposit near Guinea mine
Gold miner Nordgold has officially started mining the new satellite Diguili deposit, in Guinea.
The Diguili deposit is located 35 km from the Lefa mine’s processing facility. Nordgold bought an 85% share in the company that owns Lefa in 2010 and has since been conducting exploration activities to extend the life of the mine.
Nordgold had increased the Diguili deposit’s proven and probable gold reserves to 138 000 oz at the end of March.
“A core pillar of Nordgold’s strategy is to expand our resource and reserve base through both organic growth and selective acquisition of high value projects. Our acquisition of Lefa, in 2010, combined with the extensive exploration programme we have undertaken since then, is precisely in line with that strategy.
“The Diguili deposit was identified by our exploration team and it will now make a strong contribution to the overall Lefa mine performance,” notes COO Louw Smith.
