Company Announcement - Nigeria’s Association for Water Condition Improvement is attending Watertec Africa for the first time this year, in a quest to find modern technologies to solve its pressing water challenges. “We heard about Watertec Africa from our conference and exhibition department, and realised it would be a great event for discovering new water management technology and product suppliers,” says Daniel Foluso Ogedengbe, the association’s Executive Secretary. Watertec is Africa’s leading industrial trade exhibition of equipment and services across the entire water industry spectrum, and a component of The SA Industry & Technology Fair  which takes place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, from 20-22 May 2015.

“We are very excited to have the Nigerian delegation visiting Watertec Africa,” says John Thomson of Exhibition Management Services, organisers of the event. “This expo showcases all the products, technology and services they need to solve water issues on a continental level.”

The Nigerian visitors will specifically be looking for ozone and industrial reverse osmosis treatments for their domestic, industrial and municipal sectors. Reverse osmosis is a technique used around the world to purify water for everyday use.
“Nigeria’s water sector faces severe challenges; we are looking at the desalination of sea water for drinking in coastal areas; upgrading the efficiency of utilities and regulatory bodies, and sourcing adequate financing,” adds Ogedengbe.
According to a 2010 World Bank report, water production facilities in Nigeria were rarely operated to full capacity due to broken dam equipment and a lack of fuel for pumping.

What is the Association for Water Condition Improvement?
Water and sanitation coverage rates in Nigeria are among the lowest in the world. The Association for Water Condition Improvement carries out assessments in the water sector to identify problem areas and find lasting solutions to acute water issues in affected areas. “We also work in conjunction with other local and foreign water organisations to organise, facilitate and sponsor water-related seminars, conferences, and symposia,” says Ogedengbe. “These events take inside and outside the country, and create a forum for enhancement and development of the region’s and the nation's water sector.”

West Africa is not the only area facing water challenges. Only 10% of industries in East Africa treat their wastewater to any level.
“Most of the agro-processing industries release their industrial waste into rivers, dams and open land without any treatment,” continues Thomson. “This poses a threat to communities as well as water fauna in these areas. Watertec Africa has the versatility to act as a forum to raise awareness around these and other issues, and showcase the latest technologies to address them. It’s also an excellent business opportunities networking platform for all stakeholders in the water industry.”
