PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Pacific Niugini has reported first gold production from the Nicolsons gold mine, in Western Australia.

To date, some 110 oz of gold dore had been recovered from the processing plant gravity circuit and reconciliation had indicated that there was a further 350 oz of gold in circuit.

“The board is very pleased to have reached the first gold milestone some six months after commencing construction and processing plant refurbishment at the site,” said MD Paul Cmrlec.

“The operation is well positioned to continue the ramp-up to full production in accordance with the mine plan.”

Operations at the Nicholsons mine started in April and the project provided an immediate four-year production plan with high grades and planned production of 25 000 oz/y to 30 000 oz/y.

Cmrlec said on Monday that underground development was continuing on fresh rock, with ore development now under way on the second level. The decline was also being advanced towards the third level, while the majority of the remedial work had been completed and works to reaccess the first ore level continued.
