First pour at Nicholsons mine on schedule for August
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The commissioning of the Nicholsons gold processing plant, in Western Australia, is under way, majority owner Pacific Niugini reported this week.
All components of the plant had been tested and were operating as expected, with some 1 200 t of low-grade material crushed and stockpiled to date. Processing of this material was expected to start in the next few days.
Some 3 000 t of high-grade ore had also been stockpiled and processing of this would start within the next week. Additional low-grade material left stockpiled from previous operations was also available for processing and would be used as required, Pacific Niugini said.
Meanwhile, the decline development for the underground mine continued to advance and had reached the offtake point for the second level access drive.
Pacific Niugini MD Paul Cmrlec said the first ore drive was shaping up to provide an outstanding initial ore feed for the start of processing, adding that individual face chip assays had been consistently higher than indicated in the resource model, while the southern leg of the drive has progressed well past the current reserve boundary.
“Plant start-up to date has progressed well with the crushing circuit commissioning completed and mill commissioning under way. The site is on track to produce its first gold during August, which is in line with the project plan.”
Operations at the Nicholsons mine started in April this year and the project provided an immediate four-year production plan with high grades and planned production of 25 000 oz/y to 30 000 oz/y.
