Newmont Q2 gold production flat, copper output down 11%

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – US-based Newmont Mining Corporation produced nearly 1.17-million ounces of attributable gold and 34-million pounds of attributable copper for the second quarter of the year.

The attributable gold production for the quarter was flat compared with the first quarter of the year and down 1% on the 1.18-million ounces produced in the second quarter of 2012.

Copper output for the quarter was down 11% quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year.

Newmont noted that its full-year output was likely to remain between 4.8-million and 5.1-million ounces of gold and between 150-million and 170-million pounds of copper.

Meanwhile, attributable gold and copper sales for the quarter amounted to 1.21-million ounces of gold and 37-million pounds of copper.

Gold sales were up 6% compared with the first quarter, as well as compared with the second quarter of 2012, while copper sales were up 19% quarter-on-quarter and 32% year-on-year.
