Project Description
The expansion project will increase total capacity at the coal terminal at the Newcastle port from 53-million tonnes a year to 66-million tonnes a year.

Value
BHP Billiton has approved a further $367-million investment for the third stage of development of Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group’s (NCIG’s) coal handling facility.

Duration
First coal on the new shiploader is scheduled for the 2014 financial year, with the terminal expected to operate at full capacity 12 months thereafter.

Latest Developments
First coal was loaded in the second quarter of this year, ahead of schedule and within budget.

The project is 76% complete.
