PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed junior New Talisman Gold Mines has been allowed to enter and operate its Talisman mine, in New Zealand, by the Department of Conservation.

The junior said on Friday that the authority to enter and operate was a formal yearly requirement, based on the work programme filed with the department.

“Authority to enter and operate is another major step on the road from explorer to producer. This is the first authority to be granted on the mining permit since it has been held by New Talisman,” said CEO Matthew Hill.

He noted that the granting of the authority was a testament to the work being undertaken by the company, and its focus on establishing the Talisman mine as a significant producer in the gold industry.

“We are now focused on completion of the health and safety management plan and advancing discussions with toll treatment facilities,” Hill said.

The Talisman mine is the second largest historic gold producer in New Zealand with production of one-million ounces of gold and three-million ounces of silver. Previous underground drilling and channel sampling delineated a Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant inferred resource of 205 000 oz gold at a grade of 6.9 g/t and 800 000 oz silver at a grade of 27 g/t.
