New SolGold CEO announced
LSE- and TSX-listed SolGold on Tuesday announced the appointment of Darryl Cuzzubbo as MD and CEO with effect from the beginning of next month.
He is replacing Keith Marshall, who stepped in as interim CEO when cofounder Nick Mather stood down as CEO earlier this year.
Cuzzubbo’s appointment followed an “extensive global search”, which included “several high calibre candidates,” chairperson Liam Twigger said.
Cuzzubbo was most recently chief manufacturing and supply officer, as well as group executive and president of Auspac Asia, while at Orica. He joined Orica in 2015 after a 24-year career with BHP where he held senior positions including three years as president of Olympic Dam, in Australia, with responsibility for operations, expansion projects and organisation-wide transformational change programmes.
“On behalf of the board, I am confident that Darryl, with his deep commercial, operations and project delivery experience, is the best person to lead this organization forward in order to realise the best potential of SolGold,” said Twigger.
SolGold has drawn attention from across the industry because of the size of its Cascabel copper project in Ecuador.
The company would hold its annual general meeting (AGM) next month. Twigger recently proposed that in order to maintain stability at the company, only three of the directors who did not stand for re-election last year, and the company’s new CEO, would face a vote at the shareholder meeting. The six other board members, including Mather, who were re-elected last year would not.
BHP has reportedly been pushing to put the entire board up for re-election at the AGM.
