Sealant technology provider Den Braven’s Fire Protect hybrid sealant is a “one-for-all” sealant that encapsulates the concept of passive fire protection, which is integral when designing a building or structure.

The hybrid sealant prevents fire from spreading through a building by creating well-sealed compartments.

“The hybrid sealant allows for adequate compartmentalisation to ensure the safe evacuation of people from a building within a specified time as designed and calculated by engineers and fire consultants, in conjunction with other fire protect systems,” says Den Braven business manager Michael Berg.

The hybrid sealant is certified for vertical and horizontal applications in stone-to-stone, stone-to-steel and stone-to-wood, as well as all connections between gypsum and metal- stud and stone.

“The hybrid sealant works hand-in-hand with our other products in the Fire Protect range,” says Berg.

The range includes a standard sealant, a silicone sealant and a polyurethane foam sealant. Each sealant offers unique benefits such as varying resistance times and movement absorption abilities, as well as compatibility with different materials, applications and situations.

Certified

Berg points out that Den Braven Fire Protect products are used regularly on projects that have to comply with the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act, relating to passive fire protection.

The products comply 100% with European Standards (EN) and conform to EN 1366-3 and 1366-4 requirements.

These standards are applicable to the penetration of compartments, as well as linear joint standards, in relation to fire-resistance tests for fire prevention.

Testing and certification companies Warrington and Deutz – which conducted testing on the range – have provided test reports and technical datasheets that can be made available to clients on request, adds Berg.

These reports provide important supporting documentation required by engineers, contractors and developers when selecting products for their projects.

The fire protection materials and products are integral requirements of an overall fire protection design, and their inclusion in the initial construction of a building ensures that fire, safety, control and regulatory requirements are met, he concludes.
