The new R500-million Dunes Mall, in Walvis Bay, Namibia, is in the final stages of completion, with its doors set to open next month.

The mall is being developed by South African property developer and investor Atterbury, in partnership with local developer Tradehold.

The 27 500 m2 mall, which will be managed by Atterbury, will be the largest in the area and the second-largest in Namibia, after The Grove Mall of Namibia, also developed and managed by Atterbury.

The development is expected to be a catalyst for even more development and investment, as Walvis Bay is experiencing substantial growth, with significant investment being made in its port.

The mall is “excellently positioned” to meet retailer and consumer demand.

“On completion, there will be about 80 shops, all of which will employ local people, creating a very positive impact on the local population,” says Atterbury development manager Evert Kleynhans.

The centre is anchored by a 3 500 m2 Checkers store, a 2 700 m2 Pick n Pay store and a 1 700 m2 Woolworths store. Retailers include Dis-Chem (1 500 m2 ) and House & Home (1 800 m2 ), as well as fashion retailers Cotton On, Truworths, Mr Price Group, Foschini Group and Pepkor Group.

“Our aim for this project was to construct a convenient and dominant shopping centre, and I believe we have done just that,” Kleynhans says.
