The Copper Development Association Africa, the representative for Africa’s copper industry, has announced the appointment of Carel Ballack as project consultant.

Ballack has been appointed to attract new members to the CDAA, and highlight the use and benefits of copper as a conductor primarily in motors, transformers and through the use of the correct sized copper cables in various installations. This position will also see Ballack charged with identifying projects where the CDAA can showcase its role in industry, and be an active association amongst industry stakeholders and interested parties.

Ballack assumed this position after two years as an ombudsman for the renewable energy industry.  He started his career in the electrical and plumbing industry in 1988, during which time his projects included industrial plumbing, generator and renewable energy installations.  In 2008, he moved into a project management role for an electrical infrastructure company, where he handled the design and project management of a water treatment plant in Johannesburg, the lighting infrastructure for one of the 2010 World Cup soccer stadiums, and the installation of weigh bridges for SANRAL.

Speaking of the challenges ahead, Ballack said: “I look forward to working to attract new members to the CDAA, and raising awareness of copper as the metal of choice in industry. Africa is a very exciting marketplace, and I am committed to promoting and expanding the use of copper and copper alloys throughout this continent.”

“The CDAA is committed to seeking out new opportunities for copper and its alloys, and with Carel on board we are geared up to do that, particularly in the local electrical, renewable energy, and plumbing industries.  As an organisation we will continue promote the use of copper on behalf of our members. We are looking forward to many new exciting projects,” said CDAA centre director, Evert Swanepoel.

Ballack matriculated from John Orr Technical High School, and is a published author of articles on solar waterheating and solar electric related installations.
