New products for straighter holes
Finnish top hammer drilling tool manufacturer Robit is launching a new product group for increased straightness of blast holes in demanding rock conditions.
The new product line consists of guide tubes and guide rods with an outer diameter ranging between 56 mm and 87 mm. The lengths vary from 1.8 m to 6.1 m. The smallest manufactured thread for the products is, at the moment, T38 and the largest is RG60.
“With larger outer diameter of the rod (guide tube), the operator can make sure that the drill holes are going where they are supposed to. “Heavy bending can cause problems to conventional drill rods as the drill rod joints are affected by extra stress, which can cause premature breaking of the rods,” the company explains.
Robit adds that better straightness on the holes also increases productivity in mines and quarries as the blast results are closer to optimum. The blasting safety is increased in quarries where straighter holes can reduce the risk of fly rocks. “Not only can the customer save money with the guide tubes, he will also decrease the risk of injuries in this demanding and dangerous business.”
The products can be used as single starter tube to increase the straightness of the holes and thus increasing the lifetime of the conventional rods that follow or they can be used as full drill string in conditions where the rock is so broken that a single starter tube is not enough.
The new tubes are produced with high- quality special steel that ensures a rigid body and long lifetime.
“The extra pure steel of the tubes provides a homogeneous quality and the friction welded thread joints with increased hardness ensure the threads do not wear out fast. “Our modern machining technology, combined with precise three-dimensional measuring ensures that the threads always connect smoothly and uncouple easily,” Robit states.
