Beka Schréder, a leading manufacturer of LED luminaires in Africa, is set to introduce a range of new lighting solutions at Electra Mining Africa.

Manufactured locally in Gauteng, these products are designed to meet the rigorous demands of Africa’s industrial environments, industrial branch manager Phillip Vermeulen tells Mining Weekly.

“Our extensive range of industrial lighting has been designed to excel in Africa’s toughest environments, offering exceptional energy efficiency, reliability and low maintenance,” he notes.

One of the highlights at the Beka Schréder stand will be the recently-launched addition to the LEDNOVA range, the Zone 1 rated LEDNOVA-MIDI luminaire, the first in its industrial range. This rating means it can be safely used in areas classified as hazardous owing to the presence of flammable gases or vapours.

Vermeulen explains: “The LEDNOVA range is suitable for use in various environments, including outdoor mining areas, oil and gas refineries, food and beverage plants, manufacturing process plants and any application that requires robust and well-built luminaires.”

The LEDNOVA range is designed to reduce disability glare, thus improving light quality. Its versatility is enhanced by available surface and mounted versions, as well as an optional battery backup that provides up to four hours of lighting during power interruptions.

Another highlight for Beka Schréder is SOL-ONE, the latest addition to the company’s solar lighting solutions range. This integrated solar luminaire features a modern design with advanced technology, suitable for urban lighting.

Operating independently on solar power, SOL-ONE is ideal for remote locations or areas with unreliable electricity. Vermeulen adds that SOL-ONE’s efficient solar charging does not require alignment towards the sun, making it a practical and sustainable choice.

Beka Schréder will also launch ECOBAY RP MINI at Electra Mining. This new addition to the ECOBAY LED lowbay and highbay range is ideal for lighting industrial facilities.

"With best-in-class options to suit various applications, the ECOBAY range features a visually pleasing round or square PCB and an optional additional skirt,” says Vermeulen.

The ECOBAY RP MINI promises substantial energy savings and high performance.

Besides luminaires, BEKA Schréder also offers lighting control solutions. The company’s ITERRA unit provides a robust, cost- effective, and futureproof platform for site managers to adapt lighting to various scenarios while maximising energy savings.

This 100% wireless control system, based on a Bluetooth mesh network, offers a plug-and-play solution to control all luminaires and floodlights using standard DALI, DALI-2, or 0-10V/1-10V protocols.

Operable with a tablet or smartphone, ITERRA’s intuitive visual interface allows for easy personalisation and management of lighting installations, ensuring the right light distribution, intensity, and colour temperature for energising workers and ensuring safety.

BEKA Schréder’s high-quality products can be found across industrial sites nationwide and further afield. One recent mining project was for a mine in Rustenburg, where the company supplied the LED lighting solution for conveyor belts.

The mine’s previous undercover conveyor belt lighting consisted of older fluorescent luminaires, resulting in frequent lamp replacements and inconsistent colour temperatures and brightness, causing poor uniformity and light distribution. This old lighting installation has been replaced with the South African-designed and manufactured OPTIWAY.

“This LED bulkhead provides enough light for the mine to comply with the safety regulation requirements. This product was chosen not only for its ease of installation and robustness, but also for its cost effectiveness, low maintenance and high photometric performance,” says the company.

BEKA Schréder’s solar lighting solution is also making a difference at a mine entrance road in Limpopo. The road is illuminated by the BEKA SOLAR, making the installation independent of the power grid and unaffected by loadshedding. Cost savings were achieved as no reticulation was required.

Vermeulen points out that the company’s solar lighting systems are particularly beneficial in remote mining and industrial sites, where grid connectivity is often unreliable or non-existent.
