Aim-listed Ncondezi Coal last week announced the appointments of two former Eskom senior managers, Peter O’Connor and Christiaan Schutte, as nonexecutive directors, following the resignation of Colin Harris from the board.

Ncondezi Coal nonexecutive chairperson Michael Haworth said the pair would provide expertise in both energy generation and transmission, which would be invalu- able as the company transformed from a coal explorer into a power generation company.

“We look forward to O’Connor and Schutte progressing our 300 MW power project through the detailed design, planning and project funding stages over the next 18 months towards construction in 2014 and, ultimately, power generation in 2017.”

O’Connor was previously responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance of Eskom’s generation and transmission expansion projects, as well as the construction of a 1 050 MW gas power station.

Prior to this, he held senior posi- tions in the Eskom generation division, where he increased plant availability from 78% to 93% and was the manager of the Kriel, Arnot and Kendal power stations.

He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and is a patent lawyer.

Schutte was responsible for the engineering functions at Eskom, including design account- ability for new power stations, transmission lines and distribution development.

Prior to this, he was senior GM of the generation division, managing five power stations with over 18 000 MW total installed capacity, an operational budget of R3.8-billion and a capital budget of just under R4-billion.
