Further to its announcement in December, diversified miner Glencore confirms that Gary Nagle will take up the position of CEO and director from July 1.

Ivan Glasenberg is retiring on June 30.

The board says it has worked with Glasenberg over the past two years to oversee a seamless transition to the next generation of leadership across Glencore’s business.

Nagle has held senior roles in coal and ferroalloys in Colombia, South Africa and Australia. He joined Glencore in 2000 in Switzerland as part of the coal business development team.

Nagle also served on the board of former platinum miner Lonmin between 2013 and 2015.
