PERTH (miningweekly.com) - Gold miner Silver Lake Resources was on track to pour its first gold at the Murchison project, in Western Australia, by the end of this week.

The miner reported on Tuesday that crushing capacity at the 1.2-million-ton-a-year Murchison processing facility was currently exceeding required milling rates, while the carbon-in-leach circuit was operating as expected, with gold-in-circuit stocks building.

The first carbon strip was expected to take place mid-week, followed by a maiden gold pour at the end of the week.

The Murchison gold mine had a current resource of some 20.50-million tons, grading 2.9 g/t for 1.9-million ounces of gold. The base-case production plan would see ore being sourced from 14 openpits and four underground mines, at various stages, over an eight-to-ten year mine life.

Silver Lake said on Tuesday that the gravity circuit had not yet been tied into the process flow, and would be tied in and commissioned during March. The remaining construction requirements for the processing facility were being completed concurrently with the commissioning activities.
