Project Description
The project proposes to expand the throughput and capacity of the Mothae kimberlite mine.
The expansion will increase the processing capacity of the Mothae processing plant from 1.1-million tonnes a year to 1.6-million tonnes a year, resulting in diamond recoveries increasing by about 45% from 31 000 ct/y to about 44 000 ct/y.
With the addition of another parallel secondary crusher, the capacity of the processing plant could be further increased to 1.8-million tonnes a year. The previous plan included an expansion to 300 t/h, which is not being considered.

Lucapa reported in June 2021 that the construction works for the expansion project were completed during the first quarter of 2021.
Latest Developments
The ramp-up to the expanded 215 t/h capacity started in the first quarter, however, the mine is still optimising the mass balance of the processing plant.
